The Courage to Begin: Reflections on the First Year
Living with Grace | Issue 13
Hello January,
This month marks the first anniversary of this newsletter, and I want to begin the year by sharing something honest.
When I first sat down to write it a year ago, I was scared.
I worried it might be awkward, or boring, or simply not good enough. I delayed starting because I wanted it to be perfect—because starting something new can feel vulnerable.
What finally moved me forward was a gentle nudge from my friend Ashley. She encouraged me to stop waiting, to trust that beginning mattered more than getting it right. Without her support, I know I would have delayed it even longer. Sometimes it takes someone else believing in us just enough to help us take that first step.
Eventually, I reminded myself of something I believe deeply, both in movement and in life: you always have to start somewhere.
Everyone starts with step one. And from there, things evolve.
That first newsletter wasn’t perfect—but it was real. And from that small beginning came consistency, connection, and growth. Just like a Pilates practice, it wasn’t about getting it “right.” It was about showing up.
At Grace Anatomy, we don’t chase quick fixes or surface-level results. We believe in the long game—building strength thoughtfully, understanding anatomy deeply, and supporting the nervous system so the body can adapt and thrive over time. Longevity isn’t created in dramatic leaps; it’s built through steady, intentional practice.
This past year of writing has mirrored that philosophy. One small step at a time. One breath. One choice to begin.
Thank you for reading, reflecting, and being part of this community. Whether you’ve been here since the beginning or joined along the way, I’m grateful you’re on this journey with us.
Here’s to another year of moving with intelligence, patience, and grace—and to continuing to begin, again and again.
with love,
Grace Wang Caltabiano

"Absolutely agree! It's so empowering to embrace the idea that progress comes from showing up, not from waiting for perfection. Starting messy is often where the magic happens because it allows us to learn, adapt, and grow in real time. Not being perfect is still a constant battle for me but I'm getting better and better at it. Thanks for sharing this perspective—it's such an important reminder for anyone starting a new journey!"
