The Space Between Seasons
Living with Grace | Issue 18
Hello June,
If May had a personality, I think it would be a whirlwind.
School is wrapping up, graduations fill the calendar, dance recitals and sports seasons come to an end, vacations need to be planned, and somehow all of the projects we’ve been putting off suddenly demand our attention. May has been such a busy month, and I honestly feel like I’m crawling to the end of the school year. Between work, family, and the everyday responsibilities that seem to multiply this time of year, it can feel like life is moving faster than we can keep up.
I recently came across a quote by Anne Lamott that stopped me in my tracks:
“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes… including you.”
There’s so much truth in that simple reminder. We understand that our phones need charging, our computers need to restart, and our cars need maintenance. Yet somehow, we convince ourselves that we should be able to keep going without ever slowing down.
That’s one of the reasons I love June. It feels like an invitation to exhale. Not because life suddenly becomes less busy, but because we can choose to create small moments of stillness within the chaos. A quiet cup of tea before the house wakes up. A walk around the neighborhood without your phone. A Pilates class where, for just an hour, you reconnect with your breath and your body.
These small pauses don’t make the chaos disappear, but they give us a place to stand while the world keeps moving around us. They help us reconnect with ourselves and remember that being grounded isn’t about having a perfectly organized life. It’s about finding a little steadiness, even in the middle of uncertainty.
As someone who spends so much of my day helping people move, I’ve come to realize that rest and stillness are also forms of practice. Just as our bodies need recovery to grow stronger, our minds need moments of quiet to regain perspective.
So this June, instead of asking yourself what else you need to accomplish, maybe ask yourself a different question:
When was the last time I unplugged?
My hope for all of us this month is that we give ourselves permission to pause, recharge, and remember that we don’t have to do everything all at once. Sometimes the strongest thing we can do is simply step away for a few minutes and trust that everything will still be there when we return.
with love,
